First-Time Mountain Hiking Adventure

First-Time Mountain Hiking Adventure

Back in high school, during my third grade, as graduation approached in 1993, a group of friends and I decided to embark on a mountain-climbing adventure near Jakarta. The chosen destination was Mount Salak in Bogor, West Java. With friends named Dwi, Yoyo, and a few others from high school, we boarded a train to Bogor, filled with excitement for the journey ahead.

This experience was particularly special for me as it marked my first time hiking a mountain. Upon arriving in Bogor, we set off to climb in the late afternoon. The path was long and winding, with darkness setting in quickly. The cold was biting, to the point where I could barely feel my hands. Despite the chilly conditions, we persevered, slowly making our way up the mountain.

After hours of walking, we decided to take a rest in the mountainous wilderness. It was a beautiful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, spending the night in the serene mountains.

Following a few hours of rest, we resumed our journey in the middle of the night, determined to reach the mountain's summit. As we ascended, the first light of dawn welcomed us at the top. Witnessing the sunrise from the peak was a breathtaking sight. We celebrated our achievement by cooking noodles and enjoying a meal together. It was a magical experience, etched into my memory forever.

Unfortunately, I never had the chance to climb another mountain after that memorable night. Nevertheless, that first mountain-hiking adventure remains an unforgettable chapter in my life.
