Gultik, also known as Gulai Tikungan Jakarta's Iconic Street Food Delight
Gultik, also known as Gulai Tikungan, This culinary delight can be found along the bends of Bulungan Blok M, on Mahakam Street, near the roundabout of SMA 6, GOR Bulungan, and Blok M Plaza. This area used to be a hangout spot for young people looking for delicious and affordable food.
Gultik or Gulai Tikungan is a culinary favorite of the capital city that is always sought after by young people. Its distinctive and tantalizing taste has carved out a special place in the hearts of its enthusiasts. Its affordable price further ensures that this evening culinary delight stands the test of time.
The center of Gultik is no different from the row of street vendors occupying the sidewalk. Dozens of vendors begin to set up their stalls around 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM, but there are also those who start selling around 9:00 PM.
A plate of Gultik usually contains a small portion of rice—less than a quarter plate—drizzled with gulai gravy and a few pieces of meat. Some vendors include beef tendons as well. Afterward, the Gultik rice is complemented with a handful of crackers and a sprinkle of fried shallots.
The coconut milk soup cooked with finely ground spices, such as shallots, garlic, turmeric, galangal, and kaffir lime leaves, tastes savory. The meat is also tender.
In addition to its delicious taste, eating Gultik by the roadside also provides a unique sensation. Customers can eat while observing the dynamics of the city: vehicles constantly passing by, the roar of engines, and the sound of the bicycle bell of the wandering coffee vendor.
Regardless of having to sit on low stools, customers enjoy the excitement of chatting while enjoying the bustling nightlife with its colorful vehicles and pedestrians.
